First floor- 97.32 sqm
Second floor- 68.31 sqmThis project was on a site that was in an older housing area of West Tokyo. It is located partically up a hill that has an excellent view of the mountains that are to the west. This setting established the design direction as the house was designed to face this view which was mainly oriented to the south. Therefore the second floor became the main living area that enabled a beautiful view of the mountains and the nightly sunsets. The roof and cieling sloped in one direction thus opening towards the mountain view with clrestory windows provided for view and the entry of natural daylight. The first floor contains the bedrooms and a Japanese room that can be used for guests to spend evenings and for their entertainment as well as family relaxation. By rotating the Japanese room a space was open to the south so that a deck for outdoor barbques amoung other outdoor activities was provided. A large deck space spans the second floor therefore one can spend a relaxing evening observing the view. There is a covered space that is part of deck that allows for the washed clothes to be hung even in the rain. The owner wanted a view of the mountains from his bath tube which was provided. Because of the long facing glass to the south a sun screen was incorporated as a part of energy saving to block the summer sun from entering the house. And natural cross ventilation was also provided for to assist with the energy saving features. The ower was very happy with the final result.
