ITAKURA SOUTH PARK
Central Stage Area: 11,697 sqm
This park was created as the center of a new town development near the entrance of a new train station. The park was developed as a holding pond for water runoff from the new town. In the past these ponds were not treated as an amenity but the new concept of making the surrounding area into a park is a significant change in the development of these need facilities. The parkÕs concept was initially viewed as a castle image as a center of a Japanese town as therefore the stone walls were created to contain the run off water and provide a protected for the community. A circular plan was used to develop the inner and other spaces radiating from the central open space. The axis of view and entry were used to develop the layout of the project which contains the following areas: a rice garden, a flower garden, an art garden, a water garden, a central play space, planting area, large play space, a stage space for performance. The cherry trees ring the waterside and will provide a beautiful spring atmosphere. This project was designed while working at Living Environmental Architects.
