ATSUGI AIHARA PARK

Park Area: 213 sqm

The major concept for this park is the relation between city and nature. A main axis expresses the connection between the city, a resting space and nature represented by a monumental stone. This axis if extended westward would travel to several tall mountains. The axis is supported by a platform concept representing urbanity which raises from the street level and separates the north and south however it provides a linear path for those people who want to pass through the park. The seating space faces a rotary that is the main focus for this area of the town. The surrounding trees existed there prior to the design and serve as a buffer between the street and the raised park. A quiet space was created behind the main seating area and made easily observable for children's play. There is a small sunken seating area provided underneath a shade tree for reading, relaxing and waiting for the bus. Also incorporated was a Mobius like sculpture to express the timeless of the time axis. This project was designed while working at Living Environmental Architects.
